My beautiful blond is not thrilled I am always home. She tries desperately to hide it, but we will soon be married 34 years. We have given each other the highest of highs, pleasure, some heart burn. But, here we are. She knows, her instincts tell her something is just, not right with her beloved Husband.
My Dad, or some other Father figure in my life once wisely told me, “be glad you do not live full time in a woman’s mind, you wouldn’t last a minute!” I think it was my uncle, on Mom’s side!
So, my still pretty, but no longer statuesque blond asked me what I wanted, as she was going grocery shopping. In 34 years of my eating roast beef, she still neglects to tell the charcuterie person, THIN! My husband likes it sliced THIN! So, to be kind, as she does not like grocery shopping (When we lived in Palm Beach, and had to cross over the bridge to the real world, she called the closest grocery store, the “Nuclear Accident” Publix), I offered to shop. She smiled, tossed me her keys, and said, “I want to drive the nice car too!” And, she took my nearly 700HP steed.
Got in her car after she left. Next to me she is a midget, and I rarely drive her car, so i got it all sorted out. I listen mostly to a rock station that plays 60’s to 90’s rock. I turned on her radio, and got nothing. No station was tuned in. Actually have never used her radio! I mostly drive, and the few times she has driven me a bit, it was in my car!
Finally find the cryptically German button in her car for the presets. And only one channel is programmed, a Christian channel. My wife was raised Methodist. Not exactly much of a religion! I would call her mostly Pagan now. Spiritual, nothing too organized.
And, I hit the preset, and a woman I have never seen nor heard, is singing. Blasting out a song, that (pardon the narcissism) seemed like it was written to kick me in the balls.
Shopped. Came home, she was here. “I like your car, I think I need a new one!”
“Honey, since when did you start listening to Christian music?”
“What song came on?” “Lauren Daigle, Rescue.”
“Did you actually listen? Did you? I love you. We girls have power too.”
She tousled my hair. Just like my parents before her. Humbled.
Christine was very nervous the day we were married. Her hand was shaking. I hugged her, and whispered, "you gonna make it through this?" 500 people. Not one would have said that someday, I would lean on her.
